Reality: the surface can dry while the center or bottom remains wet. Check several depths and confirm that water can leave the container.

Myth: wilt always means the plant needs water

Reality: wilt can result from dry roots, saturated oxygen-poor roots, rot, heat load, root injury, salinity, or vascular damage. Check the root zone before watering.
