Plumeria Q&A

What should I expect during plumeria dormancy?

During dormancy, expect plumeria growth to slow or stop and leaves to yellow and fall while firm stems and branches remain alive. The timing and depth vary with cultivar, temperature, light, and climate. Some warm-grown plants retain leaves or enter only partial dormancy.

Reduce watering and stop routine feeding as roots become inactive, keep the plant frost-free and ventilated, and inspect for pests, softness, or severe dehydration. Do not assume every leafless plant is dead or force growth with fertilizer. Record the normal pattern for each cultivar. In spring, increase light, water, and feeding gradually only after warmth and active buds show that the plant is waking.
