Gibberellins are a group of plant hormones that play key roles in regulating various aspects of plant growth and development. Discovered in Japan in the early 20th century through research on rice fungal disease, gibberellins were found to cause dramatic increases in stem elongation and growth. Since then, various plant species have identified over a hundred different gibberellins.
